Kids Takeover Day – Thurs. 25 October 2018

The Bridges Exhibition in Menai Bridge will be taken over for a day by year 5 & 6 students from Ysgol y Borth. The exhibition, about the Menai Strait bridges and the history of the area, will be open to the public. Best of all, entrance for the day will be FREE.

The students will be joining the Menai Heritage volunteers to learn how a museum is run and to assist in greeting visitors and showing them the exhibition. The activities on the day will include storytelling sessions about shipwrecks, particularly the Royal Charter. The Takeover Day falls on the 159th anniversary of this famous shipwreck off the coast of Moelfre.

Takeover Days are days on which museums, galleries and arts organisations up and down Wales are taken over by children and teenagers. The organizers Kids in Museums are teaming up with the Welsh Government to help place children and teenagers at the heart of organisations. One of Menai Heritage’s missions is teaching children and teenagers about the Menai Strait Bridges, engineering and local history in general. They regularly hold school workshops and walks for students, both local and from as far away as England and France, and work closely with students from Bangor University and Coleg Menai.

The Bridges Exhibition, which is located in the Thomas Telford Centre (across from the Menai Bridge Waitrose) will be open from 10am to 5pm, with the children there until about 2:30pm
