Winter of Wellbeing Grant

As part of the Welsh Government’s Winter of Wellbeing programme Menai Heritage have been given a grant to get young people involved in improving access to our exhibition for the hearing impaired. Our Bridges Museum in Menai Bridge welcomes hundreds of young visitors each year. One aspect of the exhibition is two videos telling the history of the Menai Suspension and Britannia Bridges. However, these videos are not accessible to the hearing impaired as they are not subtitled.

The grant from the Winter of Wellbeing programme (which supports the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of children and young people 0 – 25 years) will allow us to hire a young person to provide British Sign Language (BSL) narration on the two videos, as well as subtitles in both English and Welsh. This will not only make them more accessible to young and old alike, but also provide a role model to encourage the young to use BSL.

The videos will be available to watch at the Bridges Museum when it opens in the spring. See the opening times at: https://menaibridges.co.uk/visit/opening-times/.
