Supporting the Prince’s Pier project

Thank you for your interest in Menai Heritage’s Prince’s Pier project. You may be new to us, or you may be someone who has had some involvement with Menai Heritage in recent years. Perhaps you have been to a lecture, on a walk, visited the Museum, been part of a project, donated something to the Collection, or been involved with fundraising, promotion or public opening hours. You may have been a user of the premises, singing or playing or meeting for community matters.

Whatever your connection has been we thought you might like to know how things are progressing in 2016, and to help us out in further development by voicing your support.

You will, I am sure, be aware that Menai Bridge Community Heritage Trust (Menai Heritage) is working with Menter Môn to develop the Prince’s Pier Warehouse as the new home for the Museum. Stage I of this project was completed in 2014 with the restoration of the building making it secure and watertight (click here to see details) and ready for further investment. The work recently won the International Green Apple Award for careful attention to detail.

Clipboard02Events have taken place in this beautiful setting, including concerts by Catrin Finch, gypsy jazz bands, and local bands and choirs, craft fairs, events for Anglesey Marine Week, and food events like the Menai Seafood Festival and the Foodslams. The original pine timbers can be seen in the roof structure and the walls have been returned to their original state.

The Piermaster’s house has been converted into offices which are rented and the warehouse is let out to ensure the financial security of the building while further funding is sought for further development.

Clipboard01For the next stage, European funding is secured and we are busy applying for further funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other sources to cover the remaining costs.

This finished development will offer refreshment facilities, permanent and temporary museum displays, meeting rooms. There will be opportunities for community involvement and employment in its all-weather visitor attraction for local people and visitors alike.

To assist us in the process of completing this project, we are looking for letters of support from ‘friends’ of the Museum – people who support the project and look forward to visiting the Centre at Prince’s Pier, enjoying refreshments on the Waterfront and dropping in on the permanent or temporary displays with a focus on the town of Menai Bridge, the Strait, and of course our two iconic bridges linking Anglesey to the mainland.

Knowing that you have an interest we hope you will feel able to declare your support for us. It won’t take a minute and will make a difference to our project. Just click on this link, complete the short form and press ‘send’.

Alternatively, you can pick up a paper copy from the Telford Centre when you are able.

Note: We are a charity that relies on many generous individuals and organisations for financial support. If you would like to make a financial contribution to the project please have a look at our donation page.

Many thanks for your interest.
