Prince’s Pier – WWI Event and Hog Roast, 25 Jul 2014

On 25 July 2014 Prince’s Pier will be the location of a full day of events. It starts off with the launch of the “Menai Heritage and WWI” display. This is a display of photographs and researched material to illustrate the impact on the town of Menai Bridge of the declaration of war in 1914. This has been developed over the past several months, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, by a group of volunteers and local historians regularly gathering at the Thomas Telford Centre. The event runs from 10:30 to 14:30 and will include food based on common recipes from around 1914, plus entertainment by the Menai Bridge band. Entry will be £2. After the opening the display will be on show at various places around Menai Bridge. There will also be a series of Walk and Talk events about World War I; see the program here.

Following on from the WWI event, there will be a hog roast on the Pier. All are welcome to join us on the pier, with views of the Strait and Menai Bridge, for roast pork with all the trimmings, salads, pudding and soft drinks (you can bring your own beer and wine). Tickets are £12 each (or a family ticket, two adults and two children, for £36) and are available from the Thomas Telford Centre (across from Waitrose). Doors open at 17:30, with food being served from 18:00. There will be musical entertainment before and after dinner.
